About Distinctive Records
With acid house a distant memory , rave faiding away and the first wave of progressive house over , Distinctive Records opened it’s doors for the first time in 1995. It quickly established itself as a proud upholder of all those traditions , and more .
After an initial burst of party fuelled 12’s from the likes of Datura , Uno Clio and Marshal Stax , Distinctive soon settled into a pattern that would see them grow steadily through the next decade as their roster combined smartly picked classics from the likes of Sueno Latino , Kevin Aviance , Golden Girls and Adeva alongside long term artist development for what were to become globally recognized acts – Way Out West , Hybrid , Ils and Dub Pistols .
In 2000 the Y4K label was started as an outlet for mix compilations from the both the up and coming and established DJs within the breaks arena. In 2007 the landmark 20th release featured the cream of the Distinctive tracks in the past few years. This release also saw the series bid a fond farewell to its former parent, as in 2008 Y4K became a label in its own right. More info on Y4K can be found on www.y4k.biz
2000 was a busy year for the label, aswell as Y4K it also started a sub label Ink Records. Ink has showcased some of the strongest house releases of the decade including tracks by The Ones, Stonebridge, Kid Creme, Prophets Of Sound + Todd Terry. More info on Ink can be found on www.inkrecords.net
